NATUROPATHIC HEALTH CARE
The great physicians through out
history would be happy to know that medicine's best-kept secrets are being used
today by Naturopathic Physicians, doctors trained in the holistic, natural art
of healing. Like MD's, naturopaths are trained and skilled in the conventional
tools of diagnoses - lab testing, X-ray, physical exams, etc. Unlike
conventional doctors, naturopathic doctors are also trained in the use of
gentle,
non invasive natural therapeutics.
The natural state of the human organism
is health, homeostatic balance. In this state, the human organism has the innate
ability - the vitality to word off diseases and heal itself. Vitalistic medicine
maintains that when disease occurs, this self - healing ability has been
blocked. Disease Symptoms (fever, rashes, this etc) are not simply caused by an
"evasion" of external agents or germs, but are manifestations of the
organism's attempt to defend and heal itself. The "disease" is the
cure.
A physician's task, then is to help
remove the agents blocking that healing process, bolstering the patient's own
healing capacity, and this restore homeostatic balance; health.
The role of the Naturopath is to teach people how to restore and maintain their own health by living in harmony with themselves
and their environment. Health and disease are often a reflection of the way we choose to live. The literal translation of the word "Doctor"
is teacher. The Naturopath helps people to recognize their choices and to
understand how their actions effect their health. Thus, counseling, in diet, exercise, occupational and environmental hazards, and
other lifestyle habits is an integral part of Naturopathic practice.
Naturopathic medicine recognizes and respects the inherent cower of the human body to heal itself. The
Naturopath utilizes techniques that work gently in harmony with these self-healing capabilities and
avoids those treatments that might cause new illness or complicate the existing disease process. Thus, Naturopathic therapeutics aim
to stimulate the body's natural homeostatic mechanism (balance) to restore a health structure and function.
